WHAT A DIFFERENCE A WEEK MAKES!

Well, it's been about 8 days so I guess I didn't get as much done during the snow-in as I thought!  Actually, the snow storm led to me being busier than I thought I would be. Almost 20 inches of snow and nothing to shovel it with. I was outside trying to clean my A/C unit off with just a broom and my legs to kick snow away from it. It was crazy! Getting the cars done was even worse but I'm glad I did it the very next day because it was a lot easier.  That being said, I did have time to start doing some things and I encountered enough problems that I have now changed my plans quite a bit. First off, Family Search is out! I enjoy using it for records and it wasn't hard putting in for most of the living individuals but when it comes to my great-grandparents and -uncles and -aunts it is a nightmare. I would merge 2 identical profiles and then it would pop up another one to do. I'd do that one and then it would pop up another. I really don't want to spend my time t...

GETTING READY FOR MY JOURNEY

I've thought through a bunch of scenarios as I started thinking about all of this in the last month or two. It seems that no matter how well you think things out there is always something that pops up and gives you a problem. I think that is the main reason that so many projects that are successful have to set some rules to guide them through and to keep them within a certain framework. My initial thought was that I was going to make one tree on Ancestry and then make sure I have a backup of that tree on my hard drive. I also want to make sure that I get all the digital media that I have organized at the same time. It's a lofty goal, I know. I'm finding, however, that it's a lot harder to do than I thought. Why? Well, I haven't really set any rules yet so that plays a big part. So, without any further ado, I guess I need to set some rules for this project! Of course, this is my initial attempt at this and, like any other set of rules, these will always be subject ...

WELCOME TO KEN'S GEN 98.6

Hello and welcome to my new blog. I'm excited about this project since it is the culmination of many other projects that are finally going to be brought together in one place.  I started doing genealogy research in 2000 so I have been at this for 25 years +. I've tried blogging before and have let it go by the wayside several times. My goal here is to finally bring all my research to my blog and share it in a way that might help you and also help me.  I'm not really sure how often I will post because I am not putting any restraints on myself. I am currently in the process of going through all my research and trying to organize it and get it to where it will be ready to pass down if anything should happen to me. I think it will be a good time to share my process and also revisit some of my former posts. I look forward to having you all with me as I start this journey and I hope that it will be fruitful for all of us.  Thanks and have a great day. Ken
